INC BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING NOTES JANUARY 7, 2017
MEETING NOTES JANUARY 7, 2017
Noon to 2:00PM
SW IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL OFFICES
Present:
JJ Niemann, John Riecke, Steve Nissen,
Drew Dutcher, Ian Harwick, Jane Lorimer, Tom Mobley
Purpose
Discuss current state of INC and what needs to be done in 2017.
Key Focus for 2017
- Build and engage RNO membership and participation
- Call for member participation in specific areas v. general call for help
- Be specific when we ask for support or help – define the needs
- Use member feedback and INC survey for topic development
March Election
- JJ plans to step down in March because personal commitments have increased (work, new baby, etc. and his time is not available to run INC) John agreed to fill the vacancy through JJ’s term
- Treasurer, VP and at least two one-year board seats are open
- When to announce JJ’s decision to EC knowing results of this meeting may leak.
- Drew and Tom: seats are up in March – must declare intentions to run by Feb EC meeting
- Steve as interim treasurer: must declare intention to run as Treasurer by Feb EC meeting
- Start now to identify and recruit board talent and project talent
Committees
- Strongest committees: PARC, ZAP, Transportation – provide good engagement and participation
- Ideal to have co-chairs for every committee to increase member participation and reduce stress for any one area
- As needs arise, empty committee chairs will be filled and we’ll get EC input on whether to temporarily remove from the website (Education, Charitable Works, and maybe Safety). Side note: There is a person interested in safety issues who may take the chair role for Public Safety as long as he can shape the level of involvement.
- Dinner committee: A working committee should be established in the spring of 2017.
Membership
- JJ appointed Ian Harwick and Jane Lorimer as co-chairs of Membership-BOD must officially approve at January EC meeting. Does not require delegate approval.
- We will establish greeters to welcome attendees at delegate meetings and ask all of the EC to mix and mingle to engage people who attend. Name tags for EC for easier ID. Jane will create the name tags.
- Who are our members? BID, RNO, HOA? Because of current climate, BOD felt it prudent to include all city-deemed RNO’s as member targets. Jane to provide a list of City RNO’s, separated by INC members/non-members by January 9.
- Discussed a survey of members to determine communication preferences/sources, likes/wish list, etc. EC to weigh in and set time line. – Open item
- Ian and Jane to establish a multi-person working committee to recruit members, determine talent fits, areas of interest, etc.
Communications
- Would like to refresh and simplify website site. Find a web designer either via INC membership or seek a professional we pay. Source may be Colorado School of Art & Design.
- Kudos to Maggie Price for holding the communications and website together by herself. She wants to stay involved but wants help and a backup.
- Recruit people for smaller tasks such as writing a feature article about special programs at our meetings, news editor, newsletter layout, webmaster, etc.
- February EC- discuss future of citywide survey
- JJ interested in continuing to write for newsletter
Action on Motions/Resolutions
- Find a way to gather these and catalog them – unassigned
- Report back to members on “what happened” relative to resolutions and motions when those are connected to City issues.- on-goong
2017 Activities in the Hopper
- Litmus test of actions: But does it engage, educate or empower our members
