Neighborhood Stars have made a difference in their neighborhoods. They have made Denver a better place to live by working on a cause or project to improve the appearance or quality of life in their neighborhoods.

Tony Hurd

University Park Community Council

Tony is nominated by University Park Community Council for his excellent leadership in the neighborhood’s part of the ongoing Urban Gulch Restoration project.

Harvard Gulch and Trail traverse University Park from South University nearly to South Colorado Boulevard including McWilliams Park and Harvard Gulch East Park. In early 2015 this area was studied by INC’s park designation committee, who wished the Trail to be designated along with the adjoining trailside.

Tony assembled an active committee of University Park neighbors to study and work out improvements by working with Urban Drainage, the Corps of Army Engineers, Denver city agencies, and others.  Tony walked the trail with, and gained firm support from Councilman Paul Kashmann, Greenway Foundation President Jeff Shoemaker, and Denver Parks & Rec.  McWilliams Park celebrates its 50th anniversary next April, a time also to celebrate improvements!

He is a super-volunteer, the kind of wonderful, dedicated neighbor who truly deserves a neighborhood star.
