INC Transportation Committee Co-Chair

  • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Maintain an active INC Transportation Committee, with regular meetings open to the public at which Denver neighborhood residents meet with members of the departments, agencies and other organizations working on transportation topics.
    If meetings are to continue in the same format, the co-chairs must determine topics that are timely, interesting, informative, and apply to the city’s residents at-large and find speakers to present on them.
    Assist and advise Denver RNOs in how to be most effective in working with departments, agencies and other organizations to address issues and achieve goals for safe, effective transportation.
    Develop positions to recommend to the INC Delegation on transportation topics of importance to neighborhoods. This includes both recommending individual positions and a developing and maintaining a long-range INC platform for transportation.
    Participate in the Executive Committee, attending meetings and engaging in e-mail discussions about INC operations, policy and direction.
  • DOCUMENTS/SKILLS REQUIRED (Lists, Spreadsheets, Proposals, Resolutions, Press releases, Web content, etc.):
    Conversant with a wide range of transportation topics, trends, and work programs
    Ability to stay au courant of transportation trends and changes within the city.
    Familiar with line staff, elected officials, and leaders in the transportation field.
    Meeting facilitation
    Use of Mailchimp for meeting announcements, meeting notes distribution, and occasional other announcements

  • TIMELINES and/or REGULAR MEETING DATES:
    Meetings for the INC Transportation Committee have been consistently on the second Thursday of every alternate month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sept, Nov), from 6-8 p.m.

  • RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS (Resolutions, “Academy,” Platforms, etc.):
    Developed INC Transportation Platform, which was adopted by the delegation (with no dissenting votes!)
    Recommended and received INC support for a position calling for creation of the Mayor’s Pedestrian Advisory Committee (now active) and a Pedestrian Master Plan (scheduled for kick-off in 2016 as Denver Moves: Pedestrians and Trails)
    FasTracks East Corridor Bus Tour for INC Transportation Committee
  • FUTURE GOALS:
    Expanding participation in the committee (20-30 attendees per meeting now)
    Tracking and celebrating progress on Transportation Platform recommendations/positions, reported to the committee and delegation
    Citywide Reading Group: Human Transit by Jarrett Walker (early 2016)
    RTD Commuter Rail operations facility tour (early 2016)
    Field trip to see Bus Rapid Transit (TBD)
  • CHALLENGES:
    Finding/maintaining the right balance of transportation presentations on topics that:
    Are of interest to a diverse groups of citywide neighborhoods’ transportation representatives
    Help neighborhoods build relationships with in order to make progress on their specific needs and goals.
  • OTHER:
    We presume that at some point we’ll need to find a new place for the meetings. But with Michael’s continued generosity, we have not yet had to address this.
