Neighbors for Greater Capitol Hill nominates Cindy Sestrich.
For at least the last 10 years Cindy has been instrumental in recruiting and organizing volunteers to take care of the rose beds north and south of the Pavilion in Cheesman Park. Each year she recruits around 20 volunteers through social media to help with this task. Her efforts involve working with people in the Denver Parks and Recreation Department to coordinate supplies, watering schedules, and debris removal. To educate volunteers about pruning and deadheading roses, she works closely with the Denver Rose Society. Two years ago she arranged for the donation of nearly 200 rosebushes to refurbish the gardens. While Japanese beetles take their toll during July and August, during the rest of the growing season the roses are spectacular and bring smiles of appreciation from park visitors.
