  • Update on Sidewalk Program Implementation Stakeholder Committee — Councilman Paul Kashmann and Jill Locantore, Executive Director of the Denver Streets Partnership
In November 2022, a citizen-led ballot initiative approved by voters known as Denver Deserves Sidewalks and Ordinance 307 shifted the responsibility of sidewalk construction and maintenance to the city and established a fee the city is to charge property owners to fund the sidewalk work. Over the past several months, a diverse stakeholder committee has met to propose changes to the ordinance and provide guidance to implementation. Two weeks ago, the committee unanimously recommended three changes to the ordinance to address issues and feedback raised during and since the campaign. Jill Locantore led the effort to put 307 on the ballot and is the chair of the stakeholder committee. Councilman Paul Kashmann has been a consistent advocate for complete and safe sidewalk networks, and serves on the stakeholder committee.  We’ll hear from them about the recommendations made at this important milestone for Council’s action, and the next steps to guide the implementation that is scheduled to begin mid-year.
  • East Colfax BRT: Brief Update & Safety Study — Charlie Alexander, Colfax BRT Team
The East Colfax BRT project is one of Denver’s most significant mobility and safety transformations in many years, and is something we’re following closely.  At our March meeting, we’ll get an update on the project in general, as well as learning how to provide input to a safety study on parallel streets (13th, 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th Avenues) between Broadway and Yosemite.
  • Project 529 is Here to Help End Bike Theft — Brent Fahrberger, Director of Government Affairs and Account Management, Project 529
Denver recently joined up with Project 529 to bring their successful and innovative program for bike registration, identification and recovery to our city. We’ll hear from Brent Fahrberger about the big idea behind Project 529, where it came from, cities that have seen successes, and how to participate. Register your household’s bikes, and consider ways to help your neighborhoods and organizations protect their bikes as well!
  • Introducing DOTI’s New Executive Director Amy Ford
At the end of 2023, Mayor Johnston announced the appointment of Amy Ford to lead Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, and City Council confirmed her for the position early in the year. We’re excited to welcome her and to build connections with our network of neighbors. Many neighbors served on Mayor Johnston’s DOTI transition committees and recommended focus areas to the incoming administration, which informed the Mayor’s candidate search and priorities. We look forward to hearing about the priorities and focus areas for DOTI in 2024 and beyond.
