  • Front Range Passenger Rail: Moving to the Next Phase — Chrissy Breit, Chief of Staff – Front Range Passenger Rail District
The plans for Front Range Passenger Rail effort recently received $500k for planning from the U. S. Department of Transportation, and was accepted into the department’s Corridor Identification and Development Program. Locally, it’s being reported that a $2B “starter service” will be proposed to voters. We’ll hear directly from the FRPR District with an update on the current planning, what a “starter service” might look like, and how that could grow in phases into a frequent and reliable service up and down the front range.
  • Transportation Advocacy 2023 Review & 2024 Looking Forward – Jill Locantore, Executive Director, Denver Streets Partnership
At the start of the year we spend time with The Denver Streets Partnership, a coalition of transportation-interested groups in Denver.  DSP and its members have had another year full of successes — we’ll get a review of 2023 achievements to celebrate from Jill Locantore, as well as a preview of what’s coming up in 2024 and we’ll hear about how to get involved.
  • Project 529 is Here to Help End Bike Theft — Brent Fahrberger, Director of Government Affairs and Account Management, Project 529
Denver recently joined up with Project 529 to bring their successful and innovative program for bike registration, identification and recovery to our city. We’ll hear from Brent Fahrberger about the big idea behind Project 529, where it came from, cities that have seen successes, and how to participate. Register your household’s bikes, and consider ways to help your neighborhoods and organizations protect their bikes as well!
  • Developing a New Vision for Colorado Boulevard — Ryan Noles, CDOT & My La, Denver DOTI
The Colorado Department of Transportation is kicking off a corridor plan for Colorado Boulevard, a major arterial in Denver owned and maintained by the statewide agency. With a scope focused on 52nd Avenue down to Hampden Ave., the effort will analyze multimodal needs, identify gaps and safety issues in active transportation options in the area, recommend short-term improvements, and prepare for upcoming Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) planning and design on this corridor. This follows on plans at the City of Denver and RTD which have identified Colorado Boulevard as a great candidate for BRT, and they are collaborating in this next phase led by CDOT. We’re grateful to hear directly from the project leads early in this effort!

Call for Participation: Updating INC’s Transportation Platform

Thank you to those who have volunteered so far! We’re looking for a few more folks before we kick off this update.

In 2015, our committee prepared and the INC Delegates unanimously adopted a long-range collection of transportation positions, called the INC Transportation Platform. As with INC’s Parks & Rec platform and its Zoning & Planning platform, these collected positions are intended to collect and promote policy changes and direction that the have broad support by INC member neighborhoods across the city, and call for changes that may take many years of work to realize.

Many things we called for in our platform since 2015 have been achieved. Work by advocates from citywide neighborhoods, friends in related and effective nonprofits, dedicated public employees at departments and agencies working in these areas, and elected officials made the changes happen, and these efforts were bolstered by knowing they were working on important topics that citywide neighborhoods were calling for. We have a lot to recognize and celebrate as we declare success on many items, and discuss what to add and update for our update to INC’s Transportation Platform.

The INC leadership has asked our committee to work on an update to propose to the INC delegation in 2024. If you’d like to be part of a working group over the next few months to prepare and propose INC’s next Transportation Platform, please send a note to joel@joelnoble.net. We’ll decide on a meeting format and schedule together.
